The IMSS Dublin model show was held in the Hilton Dublin over the weekend of the 17th and 18th of May 2014.And your reporter James Maher was there to cover the show for you.
As an introduction, the show has been going for many years at differing venues. And has become more and more popular each year. This year IMSS held the event in the Hilton Hotel.A very grand hotel with fine surroundings and a very large room for the competition and an annexe room for talks.
This year myself and two good friends were invited by Glen Phelan and Roy "T Justice" to the event after both had visited the IPMS Nationals held at the ICC Telford in the November. We decided to fly from Liverpool "John Lennon" Airport on the 17th at 06.15.So with security had to be at the airport for 04.15.Yes very early indeed, which meant we were in the car at 03.30.All went very smooth indeed and we departed Liverpool exactly on time with Ryan Air flight 1443.Landing some 40 mins later we touched down in Dublin and departed for our event after a very long walk along the glass tunnels to the exit and being met by Glen Phelan.
After a short drive involving some good banter we arrived at the Hilton a bit jaded and sort some strong coffee.Glen was then off to due his duties and I do not think he stopped all day the poor man.
We were introduded to many many people upon arrival and thank you for making us most welcome.
Ok the show now.The make up is very similar to American shows with the theme being the competition which formed centre stage in a large oblong with posh sheets. We could learn a lot from this in England.
We also had a great talk by Radek Pituch on sculpting figures.A very clever young man,who makes this genre look very easy with the use of Magi sculpte(Excuse the spelling)
I had volunteered or been volunteered to judge class 9 Civilian Vehicles this year in what was a very high standard class.Other categories were outstanding as well. And the images below will relect this.
Traders wise were Ian Hanratty,RB Productions,All Scale Models,Sphere,Mirror Models, amongst them. And all doing a sterling trade.
I did not stop all day and by 4pm it was all over and time to return to England.A shame as it turned out as there was some much to say and so little time. Both myself and friends had decided prior to recce the show. And by God we will return for a Guiness and a wee dram in 2015 and stay over.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Glen Phelan,Roy,Shane and everyone else we met for being so kind and the crack was great.
Ok show time now hope you like the images.
