Coventry&Warks IPMS Model Show 2014
Coventry and Warks IPMS,held their annual model show on the Twenty Second of June at a very very hot Midland Air Museum in Baginton Coventry.
The venue at the museum is very unique with all the aircraft exhibits in and around the clubs and traders, An ideal setting in my opinion.
Being only half an hours drive from Birmingham, it would have been foolish not to attend. I arrived at Eight and was quickly parked in my usual spot, but this year next to a lovely Cobra sports car.
This year I decided to join my good friend Alan Brown of Leicester Modellers There were contributions from well! myself, or course, (1/35 Armour),Alan Brown, Pete & Sarah (Tower of Doom), Kev Wilson (Helo) & Kev Green (Sci-Fi), Pete Rollins (Loki) and John Ham (Braille Scale Armour)-He won too! with his 1/48 Airfix Quad Bike and with able assistance from Phil Heggs & Daryl Gamble. We even had a visit from Alec, Song and little Edie.
Set up was quick and we were up and running in the Robin Hanger within Fifteen minutes.
The show itself was divided between the main hanger with traders and the lower Robin Hanger and also the newish education centre with clubs. In regards to clubs we had a wide variation from across the country. Birmingham, The home team Coventry, Leicester, Sutton Coldfield, Britmodeller, Stafford amongst them. Traders wise we had Mr Models with a huge white tent and lots of goodies for you to buy near the main entrance, which was the only exception to the main traders location.Main hanger we had Phil Mitchell, Chris Summers,Form U Lay and Nigel from Parabellum amongst them. All the traders appeared to be doing a good trade early on.
There was no shall we say formatted competition area. Coventry and Warks run an open competition where all models are judged that are on the club tables in various classes and awards are given from third to first accordingly. There is also an award for best in show.On that subject our own Jon Ham was awarded a first for his 1/72 Quad Bike Well done Doc.
Going on to the 1:1 exhibits I went inside the Vickers Viscount for the first time.Wow it is lovely and takes one back to the age of real flying in the 50's.No GPS,FMC's.A real aircraft. It is a real credit to the team who have taken some Five years to get her assembled and with power to the cockpit and galley.
This year I went a bit OTT on buying, but they were all bargains honest they were.I treated myself to the new AFV IDF Sho't Cal Gimel 1982. Very nice indeed.
In conclusion a great improvement on last year and well done Coventry and Warks IPMS.
