SCALE MODEL WORLD 2014
My 21st IPMS Nationals, how the time has flown. This year proved to be a breath of fresh air for me, as I had decided to go my own way. And do my own thing.
My show started this year on Friday to help set up my friends stall and ending on Sunday totally done in. But I was and am happy as a sand boy.The show started for real Saturday and was quite busy by mid morning, with everyone hunting for the latest releases. I saw one chap with Two yes Two of the new Hortens by Zoukei Mura. And on my friends stall ships were selling by the bucket load. £230 a pop on some. I wish those married chaps luck with getting those through the door and past the wife.
This year we saw the addition of a Chieftan AVRE. Arrival on Friday was very exciting. The noise and huge clouds of smoke, reminded me of days past in the forces.A fantastic addition
My first foray on Saturday was to tour the tables. A lot of effort had been put in. But a great praise should go to Terry Campion for the new "Sig of Goth". Mad as a box of frogs, no rules, no members having hissy fits, brilliant. Also Dianne Fahey came with her new Mig Sig. Dianne to has put a lot into this and if you feel the need, support her. Well done to all I enjoyed your efforts.
On to traders now. Airfix had announced under a shroud of secrecy new products. A lot of speculation and debate has gone on over the past month. Did anyone guess correct ? I got one the Defiant, but guessed the wrong scale. In total we have the Defiant 1/72, a He1-11 1/72, a Sea King 1/72. I am sure they will be appreciated.
The Hortens and everything else was flying off the shelves at Zoukei Mura. These guys have cracked the human mind in terms of what we want from models.
Of special mention in terms of traders I would like to mention The Rugged Company. The company is owned by Bryan Eley and based in Stewarton, Kilmarnock, Scotland. Bryan produces lovely bases some being sprayed in black and some in a natural varnished state.Give Brian a go at theruggedcompany.co.uk
So what did I buy, well not much to be honest. A set of Stryker wheels from DEF bought at Chris Meddings stall Inside the Armour. A base from Brian at The Rugged Company and a tiny figure from another trader. And I came out still having money from a kit of an RF4E I sold.
The best bit I have saved till last. After many months corresponding with Mig Jimenez, I finally met him on Sunday. A great guy and always willing to listen and learn others ways. I hope this will develop into a long friendship.
I would like to give praise to so some this year. Alan Brown for kicking my rear and getting me to go. Richard Farrar for listening and implementing my concerns from last year.Andy for guiding me in on Friday, not an easy task. My spirits have been lifted.
